Mockups & ideas for future games

Postby Jerom » Wed Apr 01, 2015 10:11 pm

Some mockups I did today with potential gameplay... they might not end in future games, but I think it can be useful in some ways to share these ideas... feel free to adapt them for your games ;)
(The normal version is shown next to the "gray" version.)

Jumpy = a vertical runner with a top-down view. (since it's vertical, the buttons A and B won't be used for actions, but for reset and sound only).
You play a bouncing ball who has to switch between 3 vertical paths crowded by different kind of obstacles.
The C button could be use to shoot bullets.

RPG-battle = a messy RPG battle menu with too much infos (portraits, inventory, life bar, action points...) lol

mockup 3
wormhole.png (5.11 KiB) Viewed 7864 times

Wormhole = a puzzle-game similar to a Sokoban mixed with Snake: the snake has to push all the rocks in holes; eating apples make the snake longer.

More mockups:

Tennis = a tennis game.
It might be something like Pong where A and B buttons could add a special hit (Smash, Drop shot, Spin, Lob, etc.) , or just like a "one-button" game (you need to press the right button, at the right moment).

I added the tennis ball animation.

Herocore = a basic demake of this great gashooter/metroidvania by Daiel Remar could be possible imho: his game is monochrome.

Welcome Jerom,
That is pretty good stuff! You sure know your ways around gfx. :)

I see you don´t use much dither, check this 2 Jonnection´s thread for a very good use of it.
It is very inspiring.

Hello, Jerom! Welcome to the Gamebuino Mockup Club

All I have to say is a little on the Tennis game - so it's being played inside that rectangle in the middle? Or is that something else entirely? :?: (guessing not, though)

I thought about something like that:

1. It could be played inside the big rectangle like a tennis game, yes.
2. when the ball hits you, the game freeze, and there is this mini-game right below the rectangle:
---- 1. a white thingy moves quickly from the left to the right following the horizontal line at the bottom of the screen.
---- 2. you have to push the righ button (A=normal hit B=smash C=drop shot, LEFT=...) at the moment when this big white thingy hits the smaller thingy.
---- 3. if you failed to push a button at the right moment, you missed the ball.
---- 4. if you succeed, the mini-game stops, and the normal game continue.

The letters under the tennis ball could list the different kind of actions available for each players.

... BUT i have no idea if it is a fun gameplay ; these are just random thoughts ;)

I Second Castlevania.
I might tinker around with that idea ;) .
But, if the idea gets to a good point, could you help with art? I REALLY SUCK when it comes to art.
