Understanding the language, error messages, etc.

I tried this but it still shows the battery-indicator in the top-right.
Any suggestions?

I don't have a Gamebuino here with me, but at least the emulator doesn't show the battery symbol if I put this line at the end of setup().
I'll try it again when I'm home.

It works for me, but keep in mind that it doesn't persist between restarts (I think).

That's a variable so yeah it doesn't persist if you restart or switch to another game.
It hides the battery except if it's under the low level (see battery level values
here), then it shows a blinking battery to tell you that the Gamebuino is going to shut down soon.
