sd enable pin must be an output?

I'm trying to make my clone. because its DIY projects are really fun and i can't get an original version.

In schematics said SD enable pin must be an output, the question is how to make it output? isn't it done by the software? like in Arduino code pinMode(i, OUTPUT);.
