Reuben Quest: Lost Between Times

Commentary on the King Dialog: it doesn't need to be  unskippable - once you speak to him the first time you an leave out the door your came in and save. Made it SUPER helpful for me when I noticed the level jump between getting the pickaxe and the castle guards. I Talked to the king, saved, then ground out some levels until I was ready to go. 

two more things: Every time I go under the lake I'm able to fight sharky again, whereas I was not able to trigger bomb fight again - I'm not sure if its recording victory for Sharky. Second - and yes it might be a spoiler... - how the heck does one get a hook? because I am stuck

Current state- if any of these are spoilers let me know and I will edit / remove. Level 23, speed 100, scare level 6, holding necklace.  Equipped: sword. Passive items: aqua suit, power gloves, pickaxe. Active items: bottles, bombs. I have fought bomb, shark, and *maybe* one other in the cave on the top right of the mountains, though I can't find the residual summon sign. Right now I'm just saving up for the 500 gold sword training because I don't know what else to do. Visited all settlements and talked to everyone but as far as I can tell I can't progress until I find some more bosses, get the hook, or rebuild the bridge. I've been to 5 of the mountain caves. Attached is a screenshot from the top right cave past the hungry person; this is the center room for which you must manipulate switches to enter - it is empty. This is a revisit to make sure I've covered everything; perhaps it did have something in it at one point. Anyway, I'm quite stuck and wouldn't say no to some pointers.

I had an invalid script.........which results in the game being unbeatable. Thank you for the report! .....this is also the reason you are stuck >.>

The hookshot you get later in the game....which, as i just said, you can't reach because of said bug. I'll rebuild and push a bugfix in a bit (you will need to re-battle the water boss)

The but is basically that the script didn't register that you got the portal piece

OHHHHHH. Yeah okay I spent a couple hours rechecking things just to be safe until I was like... "I give up"

I've bombed so many things and actually discovered a cave I didn't expect to, completed the trades as far as physically possible at this point, and the only places I have yet to venture require a hookshot to reach haha.

Once Sharky dies for real that'll open up new territory though and I won't have to keep revisiting the same locations and pining for the hookshot haha

When I download the new version I copy over everything except my save which will still be valid right?

I spent some time grinding for gold to get the 500 lesson - weeeee! Ended up at level 25 because of the abysmal gold rate drop.

This is written in essentially c right? Do you might if I download the source and play with it? I have  no intentions of forking your game or releasing modifications to it but I think it would be fantastic to reverse engineer.... plus I haven't touched c since 2007 and live in a kotlin world now 8) Gotta get back so I can make my first person dungeon crawlers!

Wrong, it was created by me. Reuben 1 and 2 were both originally created by DJ Omnimaga, and with his permission i made a third part of the series. Also with his permission i re-made both Reuben 1 and 2

I have a problem:

After going to the lake and not finding anything interesting there as I'm not able to cross water, I decided to go back to
Dogglen to deliver the letter and check the blocked way in the mountains again. I found the house with the hungry person and
went into the cave and did all the stuff with the switches and found the mirror piece. Then i finally went back to Dogglen
and delivered the letter and(if i remember right)this person gave me some canned food he/she didn't need anymore. So I went
back to the hungry person trying to give the canned food to it, but I wasn't able to. When I looked into the menu I saw
my trading item was a fishing rod instead of canned food, so I went back to the lake and gave the fishing rod to this person
who lost their old one and I got a fish in exchange, which I tried to give to the hungry person - but for some reason I couldn't.
Now I'm stuck and I feel like if I just could feed he hungry person somehow I would get some item which would somehow
enable me to continue playing. Also I found this candle-thing in the cave and thought I might be able to help the frightened
person with it(as my scare-value went up after collectig it)or the person who wanted a latern might have a use for it, but
nope.
Have I done something wrong or is the game broken(or did I brake the game somehow)?

But otherwise really amazing game, I don't know how long I have played so far but it feels like it have been hours, it's very addicting

It appears that this is only glitched dialog, you did successfully give the hungry person the canned food and thus the food changed to a fishing rod, which he gives you in return (the dialog would have said that)

Aaaaand added an udpate, which includes bugfix for the waterboss (you will need to re-fight it, if you have already) and the dialog and probably some other bugs i found down the road

Hmm, either I've reached the ending or just a dead end. I've encountered and beaten the king in the desert castle (past) but that seems to be it. The king just reappears, and the little village (present) seems to be still under attack from the desert. I've got Hookshot, Protect, BreadSwrd, Shield, etc., so it looks I've solved all available sidequests (some chests in the desert castle/past I can't reach). If this is the end, fine - it has been a really enjoyable game and story, but the ending is a bit abrupt;)
